Author | Executive Vice President at AmeriSave
Al joined AmeriSave Mortgage Corporation in June 2018, bringing two decades of expertise in lending, sales strategy, and mortgage operations. He holds a Business Administration degree from Belmont University and took an unconventional path into the mortgage industry after working as a music industry professional who traveled the world with artists before transitioning to mortgages for family stability.
Before joining AmeriSave, Al served as SVP of Consumer Direct Lending at Caliber Home Loans (2016-2018) and SVP of National Sales at loanDepot (2011-2016), where he developed expertise in consumer-facing mortgage strategies and building sales teams that prioritize borrower education over pressure tactics.
Living at a lakehouse property with his wife and five children, Al brings a practical, family-oriented perspective to mortgage lending. Family is his main focus outside work, and he values peacefulness and "chill" time at home. He's not interested in yard work or home renovations, but is passionate about wake surfing, football, lake life, snowboarding, and is big into music and the Minnesota Vikings.
Al's approach is warm, knowledgeable, and direct-he speaks to readers, not at them, and isn't afraid to call out industry practices that don't serve borrowers. His philosophy is simple: "Borrowers don't need jargon-they need someone who's got their back." His core values emphasize honesty, transparency, treating people how you want to be treated, and focusing on the lowest monthly payment possible for clients. His client style is honest, direct, and transparent-"tell not sell"-and his communication approach is to "talk to people like people."
Al's content focuses on how to actually shop for a mortgage, homebuying for first-timers, refinancing with confidence, mortgage affordability and planning, understanding AmeriSave products without the hype, the real costs of owning a home, and consumer protections and lending transparency. He uses analogies, stories, and plain terms, includes "insider tips" to help consumers avoid traps, and follows a "less is more" philosophy-direct, transparent, getting his point across quickly with a no-nonsense approach. His teaching method emphasizes teaching to the student (not the class), using visual aids and digestible information, with verbal clarity. His core value is "benefit sales"-offering benefit instead of rate-because "it's called AmeriSave because we save Americans money."
