Mortgage rates finished last week lower as the trend of mixed economic news continued. There was some disappointing data as the University of Michigan consumer sentiment index came in lower than expected, reversing its recent improving trend. Treasury auctions were also met with strong demand, helping to keep mortgage rates low.
Mortgage rates finished last week lower as the trend of mixed economic news continued. Though the news was mixed, the data did point to a stabilizing economy, albeit at a very slow pace. Mortgage rates continue to remain low though the FED is winding down its purchase of agency debt, which has helped sustain the low mortgage rates.
Mortgage Rates started last week off lower and reversed that trend by the end of the week to finish slightly higher. Mortgage pricing remains low overall as mixed economic news is not yet providing a clear cut direction on the recession. As data points to economic recovery, expect mortgage rates to raise as the FED will need to shift its focus to inflation.
